about

I wrote All the Children in late 2018. It was inspired by a conversation I had with my dad when we were talking about why it had taken me so long to pursue a career in music when it was something I’d wanted to do my whole life. He recalled that I used to record myself singing onto cassette tapes when I was still too little to pronounce my own name properly (which makes the whole DIY EP seem like just a natural progression, really!). During the conversation I suggested that it’s unfair to ask kids what they want to be when they grow up, and he said rather wisely, ‘I think children know. I think they get diverted.’

lyrics

I fear, I hurt, I hesitate
I see children run in but I'm much too late
I watch, I hide, I move so slow
Trying to learn what all of the children know

I sing, I dance, i try to climb
I see children doing it all the time
I smile, I scream, I let it go
Like the children did 'till we told them 'no'

They laugh out loud, they hope, they dream
While we sit and wonder what might have been
Where do all of those children go?
We forget the things all the children know
